Megan at home
Megan lives in Brisbane with her partner Murray Arkadieff AKA ‘The Beekeeper’, their dog and their four children ranging in age from 7 to 16. Megan and her partner were widowed several years ago and you can read more about their journey with grief, loss and coming together here .
Megan and The Beekeeper share a common interest in bees and nature and enjoy subjecting their children to long road trips across Australia. They are hopeful their children will one day look back on these dusty drives fondly, but this is likely a while away.
With four kids and a few too many projects on the go at any one time, Megan fully understands that reading with your kids is not always high on the agenda. But like encouraging the eating of green leafy vegetables, she fully believes that encouraging and nurturing kids to love stories in all/any forms, is one of the greatest gifts we can give our young people.

“There are some ‘fights’ that are worth having and, like ensuring your kids eat their greens, ensuring kids have a reading routine is one of the fights I’ll always advocate for.”

Megan’s Un-Official Bio
Where it al began …
Once upon a time, many moons ago, I studied early childhood teaching, always with the intention
of completing further studies in teacher librarianship and children’s literature. My mum is also a teacher-librarian, and she absolutely inspired my choice of career.
After several years of classroom teaching, I was put in charge of my first school library: a one-room demountable building in a carpark at the back of the primary school. It doesn’t sound ideal, and yet I deeply loved that library and am proud of what we created there to this day.
